I am a beagle/hound cross and I
have a cozy life here in St. John's, Newfoundland. It was not
always
so. At one point I was roaming aimlessly on Bell Island in the
cold,
wondering if I would ever find a forever home. In January of
2010,
however, my mom went to the local SPCA shelter to look at a lab
cross
puppy who had been shown on the SPCA's website. It was her
birthday and
she knew what she needed. Having lost her companion of 10 years
in April
of 2010, a boxer named Caesar, my mom was in search of a new
friend to
help her heal. My dad agreed that giving a rescue dog a chance at
a new
life was what Caesar would have wanted.
Upon visiting the pup she saw , my mom decided he was
far too rambunctious for an apartment. She was about to leave
when she
decided to visit the adult dogs downstairs. Out I came and with
the first
scratch of my belly, my soon-to-be-mom realized her heart needed the
love of a
beagle! She brought my future dad to visit me the next day and we
walked,
jumped through snow banks, played fetch and realized I was just what
they
needed. I may have even stolen his gloves, but we won't talk
about
that. The SPCA, however, decided that I "barked incessently"
and could not live in a building. I was barking because I was
scared. I was just a puppy and the new smells and noises of the
shelter worried
me. Another family came and took me home but returned me because
they
said I could not be house trained. I was sick and they did not
know
it. I thoughtI was doomed. But my were not
ready to give up on me.
Luckily for me, my mom and dad are friends with a wonderful
people who were able to provied great references and tell Beagle
Paws all about their previous dog experience. They also told
them that my mom and dad were very sad that they
could not bring me into their home as they thought I would be perfect
for
them. On a Friday my mom and dad received a call that I was being
collected from the SPCA and I was on my way to their home. I was
so
excited when I jumped out of the car and my mom scooped me up telling
me she
had promised they would be back!
Though I was known as Dryfus at the SPCA my new name is
Sidney. My mom is a big Pittsburgh Penguins fan and, while we
were
watching the Olympic gold medal game, decided I was her gold
medal. She
named me after Sidney Crosby...I kind of like it, though I prefer
watching
Buffalo Sabres games and cheering on Ryan Miller. I have gained
over 20
lbs. and my mom and dad thank Beagle Paws every single day for giving
them the
opportunity to bring me into their home. I thank Beagle Paws for
giving
me these cozy pillows and all the chews I could ever hope for.
I do not "bark incessantly" nor am I impossible to
housetrain. I love long walks downtown, strolls on the trails,
and my
cozy little beagle bed. Most of all I love road trips and even
got a bit
excited at one of my mom's triathlons and jumped in the pond! I'm
a fan
favorite and everyone at the Running Room knows me as their lead
"vehicle"
at all of the events.
Thanks you Sheila and the crew at Beagle Paws for giving me
the life I never thought I would have. My mom, dad and
grandparents spoil
me beyond belief and have all agreed they will do what they can to
support the
cause that has given them the best joy. The void in my mommy's
heart has
been filled and I am happy, content, and maybe a little bit chubby...I
blame
the treats...
What could be better
than owning a Beagle? - Well, owning
two of course !
Missy's
Story - As I approached, I could see they were surrounding a
small scruff beagle!
I remember pushing the kids away in attempts
to retrieve the beagle.
Jakey's

all balled up in the grass.
